Project #2 - Week Two: Current Event
Final Final
This is about 11"x13," which is not its assigned dimension; the size is proportional. The media used here was Prismacolor colored pencils- white and black, cardboard, and charcoal.
Here stands the cow infected with mad cow dais, or scientifically known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. Note in the scientific name, that it refers to a 'sponge'. What this disease does, is slowly deteriorate the cow's brain cells, leaving it sponge-like. In the illustration, I protruded the cow's brain with a sponge to emphasize this piece of information needed to identify with the disease and what it does to the cow. However, the disease does not make the cow angry as portrayed here (only mad in a crazy sense) but having the cow look mad gives it another emphasis to demonstrate and help the audience understand what the image is trying say. There is a spot light on the cow that shows the importance and concentration of the issue, while the (torn insides of the cardboard) dark shadowed-background gives a feeling of detection that is hard to see and slow to notice, because the disease takes time to notices its effects. And last but not least, the drool gives a sense that the cow is sick, or a reference to the rabies disease.
